STEVE’S QUEST FROZEN AND FREEZE DRIED CAT CUSTOMERS: on February 17th Steve’s issued a voluntary recall for some of their freeze dried chicken nuggets for possibly containing low levels of thiamine (vitamin B). None of the food had been distributed to our store so none of our inventory had been affected.

Today we were notified that we were to pull all Quest food both frozen and freeze dried out of an abundance of caution. If you purchased a bag from our store, please bring it back for a full refund.

In early February Steve’s became aware of low thiamine levels in the Quest Chicken Diet. Upon learning this, they immediately initiated a comprehensive investigation, reviewing formulation specifications, raw ingredient suppliers, and any recent processing changes. After consulting with their Animal Nutritionist, PhD, they determined that incorporating a natural vitamin B source in the form of an inactive dried yeast would be a simple and effective corrective action to ensure consistent and adequate thiamine levels. They have secured this ingredient and began producing the updated formulation this week. Because thiamine testing requires several weeks to confirm results, and out of an abundance of caution, they have made the decision to implement a stop sale on all Quest frozen and freeze dried products. They will be replacing all existing inventory with the newly formulated product. Rather than risk any potential health concern, they believe the responsible course of action is to remove the current product from the market and replace it with products they are confident meet their nutritional standards. The replacement product should be available mid-March. We are so sorry for this inconvenience!
